Last week, BTSE execs joined Director Desmond Yong of the Gelephu Financial Services Office (GFSO) for a guest lecture with students at the Royal University of Bhutan. They focused on explaining how digital assets are transforming the way money flows around the world.
Students got a practical introduction to how public ledgers and blockchain settlement cut out intermediaries and speed up cross-border payments.

We also examined fiat-backed stablecoins as payment tools rather than speculative bets, and walked through the difference between custodial and non-custodial models — who holds the keys, and what the trade-offs are when it comes to decentralization, risk, and user experience.
A significant part of the session focused on what sits behind a regulated exchange: KYC, AML monitoring, sanctions screening and the Travel Rule. These controls are rarely visible to users, but they are what make licensed digital asset services trustworthy and running smoothly.
For us, this was about more than a single talk. BTSE Bhutan is actively hiring local talent across risk, compliance, operations and technology. The students in that room are exactly the people we hope to work alongside in the years ahead, and we’re grateful to the Royal University of Bhutan and GFSO for the chance to show them what’s being built right here in Gelephu.
