STRK is the native coin of Starknet, a network built on top of Ethereum to make transactions faster and cheaper. In early October 2026, STRK crypto jumped sharply after its developer floated a major change to how the network is secured.<\/span><\/p>\n

The rally did not last. STRK has since given back roughly half of its gains, which makes this a good moment to look past the headlines at how the token actually works.<\/span><\/p>\n

What Is Starknet Token and How Does the Network Work?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Starknet is a <\/span><\/span>Layer 2 network<\/span><\/a><\/span>, meaning it runs on top of Ethereum rather than replacing it. Layer 2s process transactions away from Ethereum’s main chain and then report the results back, which eases congestion and lowers fees.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

More specifically, Starknet is a validity rollup. It bundles many transactions together and generates a STARK proof, a compact piece of cryptographic math showing that every transaction in the batch was computed correctly. Why STRK Crypto Rallied in October 2026<\/span><\/h2>\n

The spark came on October 8, when Starknet said it was <\/span><\/span>actively considering becoming an independent Layer 1<\/span><\/a><\/span>, meaning a standalone blockchain. The stated goal was to become fully quantum-resistant by 2027, or protected against future quantum computers powerful enough to break today’s encryption.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As a Layer 2, Starknet relies on Ethereum for parts of its security, so it can only be as quantum-safe as Ethereum itself. Ethereum’s own <\/span><\/span>post-quantum security roadmap<\/span><\/a><\/span> targets core upgrades around 2029, and StarkWare argued that going independent would let Starknet move faster.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Traders reacted quickly. In a <\/span><\/span>podcast interview with StarkWare’s CEO<\/span><\/a><\/span>, the hosts noted that the idea first appeared as a social media post with no governance proposal attached, yet STRK ran from about $0.05 to $0.12 in five days.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On October 15, Starknet opened a seven-day, non-binding holder vote that closes on October 22. A “Yes” outcome would only lead to <\/span><\/span>further research and follow-up proposals rather than a transition<\/span><\/a><\/span>, so no move to Layer 1 has been approved.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

STRK Price After the Peak: What the Data Shows<\/span><\/h2>\n

On BTSE, STRK reached an intraday high of $0.12623 on October 11, nearly five times its mid-September low of $0.02607. By October 19, STRK-USD was trading around $0.06, roughly 52% below that peak. Measured from its September 12 close of $0.02884 to its October 10 intraday high of $0.10753, STRK gained about 273% in under 30 days.<\/span><\/p>\n

Live STRK market data<\/span><\/a><\/span> on October 19 showed the STRK price at about $0.0599, down 43.2% over seven days but still up 48.4% over 30 days. Market capitalization stood near $454 million.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Swings this large in both directions are common when a rally is driven by a narrative rather than by finished upgrades. The STRK token is <\/span><\/span>used for transaction fees, staking, and governance<\/span><\/a><\/span>, and each of these STRK use cases ties the token directly to network activity. Since the v0.14.0 upgrade on September 1, 2025, <\/span><\/span>transaction fees on Starknet can only be paid in STRK<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Staking means locking up tokens to help secure the network in exchange for rewards. Governance gives holders a say in the network’s direction, since <\/span><\/span>major upgrades to Starknet’s operating system require token holder approval<\/span><\/a><\/span>, as the current Layer 1 vote shows.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
